Professor Dr. Hashim is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Director of the Urodynamics Unit at the world-renowned Bristol Urological Institute and an Honorary Professor. He graduated from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, England. Following that he completed his basic surgical training in London and Oxford, where he obtained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This was followed by two years of clinical research as a fellow at the Bristol Urological Institute, and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) research degree by the University of London for his thesis entitled, ‘Antidiuresis in overactive bladder syndrome’.
Prof. Hashim completed his urology training in the South West of England followed by three clinical fellowships in female and functional urology, neuro-urology, pelvic reconstruction and urodynamics in Leuven (Belgium), Leicester (England) and London (England). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Fellow of the European Board of Urology and was awarded the best Fellow award by the European Association of Urology. Prof. Hashim’s main research interests include the overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, nocturia and urodynamics.
Prof. Hashim is a world-renowned urologist specialising in female and functional urology including male and female urinary incontinence, neuro-urology, urodynamics and pelvic reconstruction. He is one of a handful of surgeons in the United Kingdom who can offer all forms of treatment for stress urinary incontinence and urgency incontinence. He is also fellowship trained in prolapse surgery and can offer several forms of treatment for conditions affecting the bladder and urethra. He receives referrals from urologists, gynaecologists and general practitioners from Bristol and the South West of England as well as nationally and internationally. He is also director of the busiest urodynamics unit in the UK, with an international reputation. He has trained several surgeons, from the UK and across the world, on urological surgical techniques and urodynamics.
Prof. Hashim is a committee member of the European Association of Urology section of female and functional urology, the International Consultation on Incontinence Urodynamics committee and an associate editor of Neuro-urology and Urodynamics journal. He has authored over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as 40 book chapters and 7 books, and is a reviewer for several national and international journals. He has also been an invited speaker to national and international meetings and has taught urodynamics both nationally and internationally.
